One of the cool things about working from a sketch is that it can be your inspiration for a card, for gift wrap or gift tags...or for bottle tags...like here.  It's root beer float bottle tags...and of course, there's a bit of a back story!  Each summer we're lucky to spend extra time with our grandsons.  We totally enjoy sharing our own childhood memories with them...and we especially love sharing our favorite childhood experiences with them, too!  One my own special childhood memories is my parents taking us for root beer floats.  We'd all pack into our car...after we had our baths and put on our pajamas...and we'd head over to the Dog'n'Suds in our little town.  We'd wait in the car for the "waitress" to come out...we'd place our root beer float order...and then we'd wait for her to come back with our floats!  This was such a special thing to do...mostly because we went out in our pajamas and because we got to eat in our car...and if I close my eyes I can still see (and smell!) it all!  The smell of the food....the sound of the frosty mugs clinking together a bit on the tray are such vivid memories...and I clearly remember watching the tray attach to the car window with the metal clips.  Good times...for sure.  Fast forward to today...and part of our summer tradition with our grandsons is to enjoy a root beer float after bed time...some times at our nearest Culver's...and some times at home...but always after their bath and in their pajamas.  I hope they will always remember these times...and smile...as I do!   And so...to make our first summer floats a bit extra special I though I'd create these fun bottle tags...with a hidden note for each of them, too!

The #TGIF108 sketch was perfect for the simple look I was looking for...and the bottle tags were SUPER easy to make, too!  I started with a 7-1/2" x 3" piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock, scored it at the 2-3/4" mark, and punched the center of the smaller area with a 1-3/4" Circle Punch.  Easy peasy...for sure!

I went totally out my comfort zone to do a bit of water coloring to create the root beer float as the main image...and to create the hidden messages!  To do that I simply cut a layer of white cardstock the same size as the water colored paper (which I scored at 1/2" so it could be lifted to read the message)...stapled them together...and attached them to the Sending Love DSP I had centered on the tag.  I then wrote a sweet message to each of the boys.

#TGIF100 - Designer Spotlight - Mercedes Weber!

Good morning...and happy Friday!  I hope you have something fabulous planned for your Friday...and just wait to see what we have planned for you at TGIF Challenges today, too!

tgifchallenges.blogspot.com

It's a special Friday at TGIF Challenges...for two reasons.  First...it's the 100th TGIF Challenge...also known as #TGIF100!  Seriously...100 challenges!  What a amazing milestone!  And what could be better than that?  Well...I'll tell you what could be better...it's a Designer Spotlight Challenge featuring the one and only, uber talented Mercedes Weber!

As for me...I've been a Mercedes fan forever...and I had such fun cruising her blog for inspiration for this challenge.  It wasn't my first time, my friends...but I can honestly say that each time I visit I find fresh, new inspiration.  Today I was particularly inspired by a Mini Treat Bags post.  I loved the use of vellum to create the treat bags...and I loved the DSP...and I just loved everything else about it, too!  And so...these little cuties came to be!

My husband loves cherry pie...but in all of our 28 years of marriage I've never been able to master a great pie crust.  Ugh...not that I haven't tried...and tried.  And so...every once in a while I pick up these little sweet cherry pie treats for him...

and I often put make a bit of special packaging, too.  It's just a little something to make an every day extraordinary...or perhaps I'm trying to make up for my horrible pie crust skills!  Ha!

I love to create packaging that is kind of a sneak peek as to what's inside...so I used this adorable cherry outline stamp and die cut from the Biggest Birthday Ever Bundle.  Not only was it the perfect preview for the sweet cherry pie inside, but it paired well with the best things in life are sweet sentiment from the Suite Sentiments stamp set.

And I just have to say something about these vellum Mini Treat Bags.  I. LOVE. THEM!!  They are perfectly imperfect...and organic...and if we were only ever allowed to make vellum treat bags...I'd be content.
